MEDIA AND SATIRE

Find five examples of satire from different aspects of media, including newspapers, television, the internet, magazines etc. For each example of satire explain what the satire is and how the composer highlights the satirical ideas.

SATIRE IN A NOVEL

Mark Twain, the author of “Huckleberry Finn” also writes using satire. He mocks the aspects of slavery, as well as to show how hypocritical a "good Christian women" actually is. Twain also mocks the family feud of the Hatfield's and the McCoy's in his novel

In “Huckleberry Finn” Twain satirizes the way young boys should act in the south. Huck is always complaining about not wanting to be civilized and wanting to break the rules without having consequences. A good boy in those days would not be anything like Huck. They would read the bible, go to school, and not mess around with boys like Tom Sawyer. And, they would never be seen talking to a slave the way Huck talks to Jim.

Also Twain satirized how people should act toward slaves. Huck is not like all boys in the south especially because he helps to set Jim free. Twain satirizes the way young men should act by showing the internal conflict that Huck has while setting Jim free. He knew what he was doing was going against the social order and a couple times he almost didn't do it. In the end though he goes against the social order and decides to do what's right.

This video shows satire because Jon Stewart is making fun at how ridiculous the gun debate is and this women's story is ridiculous as she happened to be threatened by some local criminals.
