Introduction: On November 2, 2010 California is going to make a historic decision to legalize marijuana for adults.  Prop 19 will make it legal for adults over 21 to legally posses up to an ounce of marijuana as well as a small garden for personal use.   This prop will regulate cannabis like we do alcohol giving California a regulatory framework to have more control over the distribution, transportation, distribution and sales of marijuana.

 

Thesis: Legalizing marijuana in California will benefit by increasing California's revenue in the local government as well as State government. In the production and sale of marijuana and marijuana related products.

 

Warrant A1: Not only will Marijuana save money by preventing law enforcement from fighting small marijuana related cases it will also create over and estimated billion dollars. . Also with the legalization of marijuana it will create stricter penalties to those distributing the drug to minors

Claim A1:  Like an increasing number of law enforcers, I have learned that most bad things about marijuana - especially the violence made inevitable by an obscenely profitable black market - are caused by the prohibition, not by the plant.   Legalizing marijuana would put a big dent in the drug cartels and free up the government, police and judges to go after more violent crimes. 

 

Claim A2: With drug and Mexican cartels being the ones that are reaping the benefits of marijuana and us as taxpayers is spending money trying to prevent them.  By making marijuana legal we will cut off the violence related to drug cartels. Mexican Drug Cartels receive sixty percent of there profits form cannabis sold in the U.S.

 

Claim A3: Marijuana regulated the way it is now makes it more accessible to minors.  If you were to regulate the sale and distribution of cannabis the way you do alcohol and tobacco, minor usage would go down.  Juvenile gangs also use marijuana as a tool for money as well as recruitment.  If...
