Dear Lancaster Sheriffs Department:

I am writing this letter to you with the concern of racial profiling that has been going on in Lancaster, and the whole Antelope Valley. Recently the Antelope Valley has become a problem lately due to the recent cases that have come up in the Antelope Valley Press in the years. In the past it hasn’t been a great concern to many, yet it has become a concern to us at the high school due to the many cases that have come about.

The main purpose to the letter is to give you not only my opinion to the matter, but to also help to try and bring it to your attention to be able to work a solution out to the problem. Many of the cases that have come about in the Antelope Valley have been done by the sheriff’s department in the Antelope Valley. I understand that as a small community that we do not have our own police force, but we use LA County’s force for our community. If this problem continues throughout our small community, what will happen in the years to come? The way that other races are being treated in our community is wrong and should change not only for those who are wrongly accused, but also to make everyone happier in the community.

All throughout the Antelope Valley many of the racial profiling cases have come up to be falsely accused African-American males and Hispanic males. I believe that the police force out here aren’t looking for sufficient information on the accused person and assume who they are looking for is the first person that they see. I understand where the difference in this is coming from with identifying a person as the accused. Recently there was a man on my street who had taken a car that was stolen straight into a tree and left it there. I had called 911 and had to try and identify the man in a collection of photos, but I felt that because the incident had happened days ago I couldn’t correctly identify the man even if I had tried hard. I had wanted to identify someone who looked alike to the man, yet...
