Supports and provides shape; protects internal organs; movement and base of the muscles; mineral storage; hemopoiesis.

2. What is the difference between osteoclasts and osteoblasts?

Osteoclast’s function is to breakdown and reabsorbs the bone tissue; the function of osteoblasts is to form the bone.

5. Differentiate between tendons, ligaments and joints.

Tendon is a cord or band of inelastic tissue connecting a muscle with its bone attachment;

Ligament is a sheet or band of tough fibrous tissue connecting bones or cartilages;

Joint is the point of connection between two bones.

6. What are the 2 main divisions of the skeletal system? Differentiate between the 2 and what bones are within each.

Axial- bones of the head and the trunk of the organism, included skull, ossicles of the middle ear, hyoid bone, rib cage, sternum and the vertebral column; and appendicular skeletons includes all the bones that’s not belonging in axial skeletons, included extremities and others.

7. Give the four general categories of bones and their descriptions.

Long bones- they are strong, large, curved and wide.

Short bones- they are short, spongy and cube-shaped.

Flat bones- they are thin, flat and broad.

Irregular bones- they are all the bones in the human body that do not fit into the other categories.

8. What is the most commonly broken bone in the body?

The clavicle or the collar bone is the most commonly broken bone in the body.

9. What are the cranial bones?

They are the divided sections of the skull.

10. What are sutures (of the skeletal system) and give 2 examples?

The sutures are the immovable joints; examples include coronal suture and occipitomastoid suture.
