MYERS-BRIGGS TYPE INDICATOR

The Myers –Briggs Type indicator is a great tool in mastering people’s views and reactions in certain situations. The MBTI is made up of sixteen different personality types in which all candidates file under. The test is very black and white; there is no room for in-between decision making. Although this test is the most used around the world it’s not the most accurate for personalities. This assessment is better suited for self awareness, problem solving, team building, and career guidance.

Historical Background

The theory of psychological type was introduced in the 1920s by Carl G. Jung. The MBTI tool was developed in the 1940s by Isabel Briggs Myers and the original research was done in the 1940s and '50s. This research is ongoing, providing users with updated and new information about psychological type and its applications. Millions of people worldwide have taken the MBTI over the years.

What It Measures

This test method has been the most proven in accuracy. It measures what it says it does (validity) and produces the same results when given more than once (reliability).

The MBTI measures ant categorizes tester in to categories based on the eight theories that they may be placed under such as;

Extravert   Introvert (“Flow of energy”. Do we receive information from ourselves or external sources?)

Sensing   intuitive (“Absorbing information” Do we trust our five senses or do we trust our instincts?)

Thinking  Feeling (“Processing information”. Do we base our decisions on logic or objective consideration?)

Judging   Perceiving (“Implementation of information”. Are we comfortable with structure, organization, scheduled environments or are we flexible, diverse and open with casual environments?)
