Test and Compare the performance of Windows Servers on Windows Azure Public Cloud

Aim: To test and compare the performance of servers which are used to deploy the java applications using Java Micro Benchmark.

Introduction:

The project is to compare the performance of Windows servers of two different versions which are running on Windows Azure public cloud. Windows server 2012 and Windows Server 2008 R2 are considered to be Windows servers in this project. Java Micro Benchmark is used as a benchmark tool to test the performance of servers. When project is proposed, Specjbb2005 benchmark was supposed to be used but due to download errors, Java Micro Benchmark is used in this project which is also a Standard benchmark.

In the experiment, Windows Azure public cloud is used as a cloud environment and Virtual machines are created in it are used as servers to test. The detailed description of implementation is given below in this document that is how to connect to Windows Azure, create virtual machines, select windows servers, attach and use data disk and connect to remote desktop. The necessary instructions to run benchmark is also given below. Results are taken and analysed to compare different versions of Windows Servers.

Sections of the document are divided in this way, Background, Implementation, Result analysis and conclusion of the document. Tests are run and compared individually and results are analysed to conclude which server performs better.
