Abstract

This assignment is about the recipient of the Project Management Institute’s Project of the Year Award. In 2007, Fluor Corporation was honored with PMI’s 2007 Project of the Year Award for their efforts in a Nuclear Clean Project in Ohio. Within this assignment, one will explain how the project managers and teams involved exhibited exceptional and ethical project management practices. One will also discuss the roles of the project manager and teams involved within this project.

Exceptional and Ethical Project Management Practices

The project managers involved with the undertaking of this project exhibited exceptional and ethical project management practices through the entire project. There was one situation when the project managers displayed proper ethics. It occurred when Fluor had to reach out to the stakeholders within the community. According to pmi.org (2014) the citizens of the community didn’t trust management and demanded a voice in cleanup decisions (p.1). In order to complete the project within a timely fashion, Fluor needed the support of the community. According to pmi.org (2014) the company held public meetings and established a citizen’s advisory board aimed at giving local stakeholders a voice in the cleanup process. The team also launched an envoy program, sending out the team to spread the word on project progress. People who worked the site would meet with community people and keep them informed on the cleanup (p.1). According to Fluor.com (2014) the project team was able to build a level of trust with the surrounding community by sharing timelines, performance management plans and a clear vision for the final outcome of the project (p.1).
