Honolulu, HI Community Profile

I live in the City and County of Honolulu, in the state of Hawaii. Honolulu is a diverse city made up of multinationals from across the globe, making us a multicultural city, considered being the “melting pot of the world.” We are the tenth-largest municipality in the United States. (United States Census Bureau. (2008). The current population is 387,170 which spans across approximately 600 square miles which is just under 1587 persons per square mile. Asians alone account for more than 43% of the population, and we have more than 81,600 veterans living amongst us. The median age is 36, and for every 100 females there are 101 males. We have more than 339,300 housing units where homeownership is 56.4%, the median value of owner occupied housing units are $557,800 the median household income is $72,292, and our poverty level is 9.6%. (US Census Bureau. (2014). The unemployment rate is 4.6% for the State of Hawaii (Unemployment-Extension.Org. (2014).

There are various functions held throughout the year. There are a number of carnivals held at different private schools, there is an annual State fair, many parades for almost every holiday, and an abundance of multicultural events. There are various activities held at the state convention center such as an annual car show, conventions put on by different organizations, many outdoor food shows, farmers markets held throughout the county in various neighborhoods, and many other activities held throughout the year.

An individual's responsibility to the community is to be a good citizen. Adhering to the laws of the land and the road, coming to the aid of someone as a good Samaritan, and helping those that are less fortunate.
