Organizational Learning and Decision Making at the Contemporary Collection

University of the Rockies

Abstract

The Contemporary Collection store sells beautiful contemporary style furniture along with a large array of decorative items. Contemporary Collection has been a leading boutique home furnishing store for the past 15 years. However, in the past three years, there has been a new major furnishing chain store that has opened and is luring the customers away from Contemporary Collection. This is causing the store sales to drop about 30% in the last year. The customers have told the owner that they are not keeping pace with the new trends in furniture and their products, seem to be old and outdated and certainly not contemporary. The new store seems to offer better customer service to their customers, such as same day delivery and set up. It is important for the owner to change the way the employees think about store operations and how decisions are made. According to Mason, (2014) there are five disciplines that must be mastered when introducing learning into the organization. The decision making process must include all the employees in order to reach goals and improve the sales and make the customers happy.
