Abstract

This paper will explore the reasons Five Guys has succeeded in an industry such as the restaurant business during these economic times. Specifically how their philosophy has contributed to the success of the company and how their approach to social and ethical responsibility is a key factor in their everyday culture.

Five Guys decided to go against the NORM. In an industry were quantity over quality is the status quo. Jerry Murrell chose to take the path less traveled. The two pillars that the company builds it foundation on are offering a quality product to their customers and providing quality service to their customers and employees. Any business that is created must have a good product. It is the essence to its survival. The fast food industry is one that predicates itself on the belief that fast service, and multiple choices is what today’s consumers are looking for. In order to provide this type of service fast food chains have to use cost cutting options when delivering their product. In turn the quality of the product can be compromised. Five Guys decided to accept the mantra, instead of being the jack of the all trades lets be the master of one. Five Guys chose to offer a simple menu burgers and fries. The company chose to use fresh not frozen meat as other fast food chain so. Five Guys demonstrates that what the customers wants is a good tasting burgers. Inspite of the current economic conditions Five Guys uses the best ingredient regardless of cost. They also provide their customers with option.
