The idea of this paper is to analyze this case and demonstrate that how Cloud computing services and other technological advances allows the most complex tasks to be done basically from anywhere. We also attempt to figure out whether this movement towards cloud computing is the advent of a new era in business IT, or just a fragile wave for interest of a novelty.

What Happened?

Dr. Eric Schadt is a scientist who make research on gene. Most of the times this is required a system that can store a large amount of data. Large company can afford to purchase an information system infrastructure that can store a lot of data and very complex. He found out cloud computing eliminates the high cost of information system infrastructure. This new technology is affordable for small companies and it is the best system to manage the study of the living system.

He is a co-founder of Sage Bionetwork that shares data among peers. Sharing data that is “the key to finding cures and creating drugs that will combat diseases”. He is learning a new technology that can help biologist to look at “individual molecules of DNA in real time”. This project demands a lot of travelling. Because of that he needs a system that allows him to access its data anywhere for its research. Cloud computing power is the exact system infrastructure that help him to continue its research anywhere.

What was the cause?

The cause for Dr. Schadt to use cloud computing to do his research was that the amount of data generated in the research was too large for any individual, or company to manage. (Pearlson & Saunders, 2013). Dr. Schadt also had to travel a lot, therefore, using cloud computing, he was able to do most of his work in different locations but mainly in his travels during long plane flights. He also believes that sharing is the key to finding cures. Which is why he created a human social network to share information.
