Which Forms Do I Need to Complete For Federal Taxes?

• If you do not have a 1042S or W-2, then you must complete only the Form 8843

•If you have only a 1042S, then you must complete the Forms 8843 and 1040 NR EZ for Federal.

•If you have only a W-2, then you must complete the Forms 8843 and 1040 NR EZ

• If you have both the 1042S and W-2, then you must complete the Forms 8843 and 1040 NR EZ*.

Federal Forms (8843 and 1040NR EZ) are sent to: Department of the Treasury, Internal Revenue Service Center, Austin, TX 73301-0215

Which Forms Do I Need to Complete for Michigan Taxes?

If you have a W-2, then you will also need to file Michigan Taxes. You will need MI-1040, Schedule NR, MI-1040 Schedule 1, and Schedule W.

Michigan Forms (MI 1040, Schedule NR, Schedule 1 and Schedule W) should be sent to: Michigan Department of Treasury, Lansing, MI 48956

Any other forms to worry about?

If you have city taxes taken out of your paycheck, or if you live in Grand Rapids, you will need to file Grand Rapids taxes as well (sample provided). Students living in Walker must complete the Walker forms (no sample provided) . You may check other cities online to see if you must file a local tax return.

* If you have a complicated financial situation, you probably need to complete the 1040NR instead of the 1040NR EZ. You will need to hire someone if you have questions with that form.

1. Visa Number is the same as the Control Number.

2. Days Exempt means all of the days that you were a student.

3. “Visa Entered On” means the type of visa that you entered the US on when you first arrived.

4. 1098T- international students are not eligible to claim tuition credit from this form that was mailed.
