How does your selected religious group differ from other religious groups (such as in their beliefs, worship practices, or values)?

Judaism was founded around 2,500 (B.C.) and is one of the oldest religions in the world today. One of the biggest differences between Judaism and other religions is their day of worship. While most religions observe Sunday as their “Day Of Rest”, Judaism observes Saturday as their “Day Of Rest”. Unlike most religions, Judaism does not focus much on cosmological concepts but instead focuses on relationships: the relationship between God and mankind, between God and the Jewish people, between the Jewish people and the land of Israel, and between human beings.

What has been the experience of your selected religious group with others that do not share its beliefs or practices?

Since the religion began in 2,500 (B.C.) the Jews have been prosecuted by their enemies and other more powerful religious nations and leaders. From their enslavement in Egypt beginning in 1429 B.C. to the Holocaust during World War II those who practice Judaism have been mistreated, beaten, and even made the targets of war crimes.

In what ways has the religious group you selected contributed to American culture?

Taking a look at American culture one might be surprised to see how many influential Americans also happen to be Jewish. Some of those names from America’s past include Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis who was the first Jewish Supreme Court Justice. There is also Jonas Salk who discovered the first polio vaccine in 1955, Levi Strauss founder of the Levi Jeans Corporation, and actors such as Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, James Franco, and NBA Commissioner David Stern.

Provide specific examples of prejudice or discrimination your selected religious group has experienced.
