1. Identify and explain key trends that are occurring in computer peripheral devices? How do these trends affect business uses of computers?

Computer peripheral devices have been evolving in a way that provide users to enter data and commands more easily into a computer system. Though keyboards are most widely used devices, more convenient devices are also available; electronic mouse, trackball, and touch pads. The latest technology that is gaining popularity is speech recognition system. As the name implies, this newest technology enables users to use the easiest and most natural means of human communication. Some of advantages of using speech recognition system include hands free data input and enhanced accuracy. According to the textbook, manufacturers can use speech recognition systems for the inspection, inventory, and quality control of a variety of products; airlines and parcel delivery companies use them for voice-directed sorting of baggage and parcels (O’Brien & Marakas, 2013).

2. Discuss important computer hardware developments that you expect to happen in the next 10 years? How will these affect the business use of computers?

Since computer hardware has been developed exponentially, it’s hard to predict every single advancement we will see in the future. However, some of developments mentioned in textbook are; Moore’s law, advancement in optical scanning technology, and nanobots. For first two examples obviously increase capability of computers. In return, we will be able to process the work more fast and efficient manner. On the other hand, nanobots mentioned in the textbook will change our lives in remarkable and unimaginable ways. Based on the information provided, non-biological intelligence will improve rapidly by itself and we as humans can’t keep up the progress that computers generate.
