Theme 1: Exchange across cultures
2. Analyse how one of the following techniques has been used in clothing and/or textiles in three different cultures. Focus on the 18th century, the 19th century, or the 20th century.
d) tailoring
This case study aims to explore in depth of one historical technique that has given birth to fashion used in clothing, examining three countries ; France , the United Kingdom and the United states , towards their cultures and how their culture contributes to their meaning of tailoring and garments. Through comparing and contrasting their similarities and difference, we shall see what each country depicts the following technique through the 1750s till 1850s in clothing and their cultural approach.
This essay will introduce the subject of Tailoring exploring the relevance of the technique to the meaning of all three countries through their cultures and garments they have created.
Both the united states and united kingdom have enhance garments based on their background,
Yinka Shonibare application of Dutch wax with an African twist in either his painting (Fig 1) and instillation (Fig 2) in a more positive influence whilst Joyce J Scott has used her bead pieces (Fig 3) in a more stronger influence such as political awareness, from pop culture to African culture.
