Epiphanies

In this beautiful and boundless universe, hidden amongst incredible stars and planets, lies a lost world. Upon this world lies a man. A single, solitary life force trapped within the confines of its own troubled existence. To him, this world is not a place where the value of life is sacred. To him, this world is a prison; a prison with only one inmate, only one cell. There is no warden, no guards, just him. He is trapped within his own wretched prison, one which he created within his own mind.

When he wakes up on cold winter mornings, when the frosty flakes of ice still cling to the grey grass and leaves, he wakes alone. He spends his days alone, wishing, waiting, wondering what this life has in store for him. Clinging to the belief that one day, she’ll return to bring back his happiness, his reason for existence, his lust for life. When she left that awful day, when she was torn from his crying arms, he became lost. He became broken, he became alone. This world took her away from him. This world tore from his arms all that he held dear, all that he held sacred. She was the love of his life, his beacon of light, truth and humanity. As she lay lifeless, the world stole her innocence; at the same time, the man’s was too; the single, solitary, life force, had lost its light.

He leaves flowers on her grave, to show that he still cares. Once beautiful red, luscious roses, teeming with life and covered in cool raindrops, boasting exquisite flowers and thorns, now lie blackened and dead on the frozen earth. On some days, he reaches to the sky and cries out her name. All he gets in reply are the echoes bouncing around inside his head; his dark, twisted head. On other days, he pleads with the heavens, he pleads to have his love brought back to him, to have his life back. He is shunned by furious thunder and treacherous lightning, burning bright into the night sky; burning a hole in his bleeding heart. He’s living in a world, so cold, wasting away. He’s living...
