Trends in the Workplace
The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate knowledge of key trends in the workplace that have significant influences on an organization and the roles that HR play in helping company’s react to evolving trends, comply with federal and state regulations, and manage workplace flexibility. In addition, the contents of the paper will have mention of the key functional areas of HRM and reconnoiter the manner in which each function contributes to the overall performance of an organization.
Key Functional Areas of Human Resource Management
There are five key functional areas linked with Human Resource Management, and they are: employee relations, employee development, safety, staffing, and total rewards.
Employee Relations
Employee relations focuses on maintaining affirmative relations between company’s and its human capital. There are several responsibilities that umbrella this functional area; such as, rewards and recognition programs, verifying acquiescence with policies and company regulations, self-esteem management, and grievance investigation and labor relations. This functional area collaborates with members of the management team to provide support as needed. An example would be employees being recognized for an extraordinary work performance and rewarded a bonus. It is not unusual for an organization to evaluate employee performance in order to compensate employees who have performances that reach or exceed the organizations expectations.
Employee Development
This functional are concentrates on employee improvement, and is also called training and workforce development. The aforementioned function involves identifying areas where skills development is needed in terms of specific skills or knowledge that an employee needs to master organizational-wide training needs.
