Instruction Manual

The purpose of my manual is to teach someone how to homebrew. I will be covering everything from the basic equipment used to advanced equipment. The steps involved in brewing and fermenting will also be covered as well as bottling and kegging. Since I will be covering this topic I will also have safety steps and warnings for underage drinking. What makes this unique is I plan in using one of my personal recipes and showing the equipment I use personally. I’m thinking of titling my manual “Homebrewing: Five Gallons of Happiness”.

Some terms I will define are fermentation, hops, grains, fermenting yeast, and secondary fermentation. My main challenge in doing this topic will be the safety precautions used and the potential for underage drinking. To combat this challenge I will include safety steps and a notice for underage drinking. The graphics I plan on using are personal pictures of my equipment to show what each actually looks like.

My primary audience will be those looking to start homebrewing for themselves. My secondary audience is those that have done homebrewing and want another persons ideas or just need a quick refresher. The tertiary audience will be those around when someone is homebrewing and decide that that they also want to do it. All of these audiences will be at least 21 years of age. They may want to save money or just need a new hobby. They can be of any income since after start up it typically takes forty dollars to make a five-gallon batch of beer. My research has been done by visiting with friends that homebrew, visiting small batch factories, and my personal experience.

The audiences that I will be writing for will not affect the way that I write my manual at all. It will contain a table of contents so readers of all skill levels that want to homebrew can simply flip to the section that they want to and use it.
