2. Orwell presents guidelines for using metaphors. Briefly describe these guidelines.

Being preoccupied with grammar and word usage could make writing meaningless. Orwell claimed that a writer can have a lot of words with no metaphors and these words would have no meaning, but too many metaphors and the lack of attention to grammar will also bog the meaning down. The reader can be lost and unable to understand the true meaning and purpose. In conclusion, using imagery and metaphors and good grammar are useful, but making that a primary concern will pervert the writing.

3. Pretentious diction poses a number of problems, according to Orwell. Explain what these problems are.

If the writer is unable to put their thoughts in their words, than their ideas won’t be effective. Pretentious diction adds a scientifically formatted biased judgment. It can also glorify certain event or add fluff and unnecessary posh elegance. In conclusion, pretentious diction provides an increase in excessively casual speech and vagueness.

4. Give three examples of Orwell's idea of meaningless words.

Orwell felt that the English language is too vague and that it can be even easier to make up words then to find a word in English words. Sloppiness in english writing leads to sloppiness in our thought patterns and behaviors.
