Introduction

The role residence halls play in community formation has begun to shift in recent years. Residence halls will continue to play the vital role of community and social connection for students; however, the digital landscape has paved the way for alternative sources of connection. With the birth of blogging, Facebook, and other online venues, students are able to connect to other students (and society) without leaving the comfort of their rooms. The role residence halls play today in community development is an interesting question to address. Facebook, according to the facebook website, more than half of the active users log onto their accounts daily. Over the past few years, as usage of facebook has expanded beyond individual use and into the hands of companies to promote products and service it has been a main concern for many universities, schools and companies to monitor and limit the use of Facebook for fear that some can’t perform other task if they have access on facebook specially those students. However, although facebook could be a great tool to use to connect with friends and maintain relationships. There is line that could be crossed in which a student utilizes

Where does one cross the line from simply using facebook to devoting all of their time and energy to check their news feeds and staying updated on every aspects of their facebook page.
