Ceremonial Speech Outline

I was chosen by the family to give this eulogy on my grandpa you know why? Because they want a top notch speaker. “The day of your birth, your death begins to walk… it walks without hurrying.” This is a quote by Jean Cocteau that my grandpa always knew. I’ve always had a sense that he was always ready for death walking to him. My grandpa meant a lot to me and the family that is what I’m up here today to tell you things about him, to help you understand why he meant so much to us, and the way he lived his life.

Grandpa was a great mentor, father, husband, Uncle, and brother. He was always there for me through good times and bad. Through the bad times he would be that person to shed light on a bad situation by catching everyone attention to say a joke and walk away. By then most of us would stop fighting because the joke would be so random and way off topic. Or he would find another way to make me stop by correcting my punctuation or point out that I can’t stay on topic. If me and my grandpa would fight and I swear we would fight over the simplest things and when it finally hits me that there is no point to this I would apologize and say I’m wrong Then he would say sorry that he was wrong and I have no reason to apologize and for some reason it always seems to me like he would try to win the argument even though it’s over.

My grandpa was also the one person we could go to for some advice he always had something to say with a quote I don’t know how he knows so many but we loved all of it. If someone needed help he would be the person to drop everything he is doing to aid you or help you out. I would always say to him Grandpa you don’t have to do it but he would always say “Boy I need some of that good carma to get me off of this damn planet.” This is why I always felt he was never afraid of death I remember him saying that life is a beautiful lie and death is a painful truth.
