The world is becoming more demanding on the need of the globalization, the organizations or the companies are depending on the increasing trend of globalization to measure the success of their business. The main reason the companies looking forward for this globalization is to produce and market their products at cheaper cost elsewhere around the world.

“According to Harvey and Moeller (2009) there are currently 850,000 subsidiaries of multinational corporations operating globally”. This increasing trend of globalization has become the main reason for the expansion of the multinational companies and also increase the movement of the human capital across the globe.

As a step to maintain and enhance their competitiveness across the global, these companies strive hard to find the right candidate who can manage and operate their overseas business in effective way.

This is where the expatriate employee comes into picture, an expatriate employee is an employee which send by the parent company to manage and operate the company in host country which is in foreign country.

The need for internationally competent employee or the expatriate employee has risen tremendously as the companies facing global competition. Even though there are various benefit provided by the expatriate employees to their company but the journey has never been smooth as we expect.

It is often quoted that “International skill is more important than business skill for an expatriate assignment”. What is international skills and business skills and why it plays important roles in expatriate assignments?

International skills means the skill of adaptability to cross culture, socially competent with the different environment and surrounding cultures whereas the business skills means the technical expertise that is necessary for the job.
