Becoming a Leader

If you find it difficult to persuade others to accept yourself as a leader, most probably you are lacking some of the leadership traits a good leader should have. In order to make yourself a leader that everybody accepts, you need to have certain qualities. If you lack any of them you will never make yourself a successful leader. In the first place a leader has to be honest. Being honest alone is not going to be sufficient; you also need to show that you are honest. Most often leaders try new things as they should do that but when things go wrong often they don’t accept their mistakes. If that happens, with you, others will not accept you as a good leader.

Being able to see the future is also essential for a leader. He should have a vision on the next level. Where your organization or the department is going from where you stand, should be figured out by a good leader. It is one of the important leadership traits. You may have a vision but if the members of your team do not know that you have a plan, it is as bad as having no plan. Therefore, you must have your plans for the future and you need to show others what it is.

Competency is also one of the essential leadership traits. Like all other leadership qualities your team mates must know that you are competent. Anyone will be happy to have a competent person as his leader. Competency doesn’t mean that you must be the most knowledgeable person in the entire organization but you need to be able to guide your team mates with proper guidance and vision. This is what they expect from their leader. By simply telling them that they have achieved their targets you could show your competency. It is an indirect way of telling them that you have guided them the correct way.
