My Family History

Some families are very large with diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds. My family on the other hand is small, without any significant ties to religion or triumphant stories of coming to America. Although, I have always said it is not about quantity but quality. The group I have chosen to focus on is my mothers side of the family, the Kryzwiec's. In this paper I aim to uncover and explain my families history. I will do this through tracing their background ethnically and religiously. Ethnically exploring how they came to America and why. While religiously discussing what my family practices and the transition of that to America. What I aim to accomplish is to uncover the history of my family by interviews, journal articles and from my own knowledge of my families journey.

Background Information

My family has always been smaller it seems than most peoples. Only having my mothers mother still alive, it limits the information and history I am able to achieve. I have never met my fathers parents due to disease and suicide, so I have only known my mothers side. My grandfather on my mothers side passed from disease when I was young, so my grandmother Carol Kryzwiec is the only grandparent I have ever been able to get to know. With the circumstances, I chose to focus on my grandmother and her parents knowledge of their family history.

My grandmother’s mother was Lithuanian and her father was Welsh and Irish. Both of her parents were born in America but still harvested some of their ethnic roots. Although her grandfather was born in Wales. According to the book The Welsh in America: Letters from the Immigrants many Welsh immigrants came to America with the fascination of freedom and more land compared to their small country (Conway 7). During the eighteenth century Wales was hurting because of the large population and the lack of food due to bad harvests (Conway 7). So this drove them to leave Wales and come to America.
