What is the mission of the Carmelite Monks of Wyoming?

Unlike the grandiose catholic stone cathedrals built in the name of the Catholic Church and seen all over the world, the Wyoming abbey founded by Father Daniel Mary lacked the necessary accommodations for possible expansion. In its early stages, the Carmelite monks were a brotherhood of 13 young men living together in a small home in Wyoming. Father Daniel envisioned expanding the monastery not only in its accommodations, but was determined to almost triple the number of monks that would be living under the oath of the Carmelite. Therefore, he needed to find a piece of property that would allow for new developments, including a retreat center appropriate for tourism, a Gothic church, a hermitage and a covenant that would include separate accommodations for Carmelite nuns.

According to information collected from the Carmelite Monks website, the brothers of Wyoming seek to prolong the charism of the Blessed Virgin Mary by living the Marian life. The daily order of the Carmelite monks is lived as is directed by the primitive Carmelite Rule as well as the ancient monastic observance of Carmelite men. The reading further states that Carmelite Fathers and Brothers “live in unwavering fidelity to the Magisterium of the Holy Roman Catholic Church and the Holy Father”. Because the men are chosen very selectively, Carmelite monks understand the mission of the Order and vow to live a life of obedience, chastity, and poverty for the goodness of the Catholic Church and the world as a whole.
