Addressing Challenges of Groups and Teams

In a group or team setting, there are many challenges that the members can face if they are not properly trained. A training program is a great tool for any organization to have because it provides a way for the member of the team to reach individual and company goals more efficiently. After a bit of research, I will continue to look into the failure of Tyco. By implementing a training program, Tyco could possibly have decreased the severity of the company failure that occurred. In this training program, the group of managers will learn of the correct ways to communicate effectively between each other and the company, collaboration methods, and ways to improve on conflict within a group.

The training program will be conducted yearly with a semi-annual review of progress. All members of management are required to participate in the group training session. As it is a concern of Tyco for the management team to be away from their posts for an extended period, the training will last only for two days. After all material is covered, the managers will be tested on the knowledge of what they have learned, and they will be provided supplemental material in areas where extended learning is needed.

Training Plan Item One: Communication

Communication is one of the most important aspects of any organizations success. The lack of proper communication contributed to the failure of Tyco. According to WebFinance, Inc. (2010), communication is defined as a “two-way process of mutual understanding, in which participants not only exchange (encode-decode) information but also create and share meaning” (Communication, para. 1).
