The data for this paper was collected during an interview with the human resource liaison Vanessa Begin and material from the Mission hospital annual report and other hospital documents. The interviews were divided into four sessions that lasted between thirty to forty five minutes and included many written materials about factual and statistical information about Mission Hospital. Vanessa Begin explained about the hospital perception of the meaning of the word community and the role it should play in improving it.

Mission hospital is a non profit 340 bed acute care facility that was founded by the sister of Saint Joseph of Orange and serves the South Orange county community. Mission is one of tree regional trauma centers with an average of 940 traumas per year and about 60,000 people per year visit the emergency room. Mission serves a diverse community of about 145,000 residents that range from long term well upper middle class to immigrants with low income. Mission Hospital has direct socio economic impacts in the various communities of South Orange County.

The fist benefit that Mission Hospital brings is employment to people of all walks of life. There are about 1,700 direct employees at Mission Hospital and 698 physicians affiliated to the hospital. In the year 2008 Mission hospital revenues creating approximated about 335 million dollars per year and gave back to community projects about 17 millions.

The second benefit that Mission hospital offers is creating community resources for the less advantage segment of the population. There are five different established modalities to address the community needs. The modalities are access to healthcare, obesity prevention, mental health, improving quality through education and ability to obtain decent affordable housing.
