When I think of diversity in the United States, I think of a collection of people from all races, ethnicities, cultures, and from all walks of life. Throughout this course, I have come to the realization that America was built on diversity. Different cultures came to this country so that they could escape the horrors of their country and to possible have a better shot at a better life. In time, this country became known as a safe haven for those looking to express themselves in their own way in regards to culture and religion and the option to worship freely without hindrance. At the beginning of this course I really only looked at what we still have to accomplish, but never bothered to think how we have progressed over the centuries.

We have had many projects in this course and after researching my own racial history, I discovered a lot more than I had known before. I learned that even throughout slavery, oppression, and racism, the black people have still achieved great things from inventions to changing government policies for the betterment of all mankind. On that same note, there is a level of diversity that now exist in this country to date and I believe that in a few decades that overt racism will be dwindled down to almost nonexistent. This country has become a mixture of many types of human beings that I believe shape the image of America as it should be viewed. I think this mixture of people will eventually do away with the minority and majority classifications because we will be so diverse in time that it should not be there.

Since this country is diverse on many fronts, it does come under fire with discrimination being rampant here. It has been stated many times by scholars, journalist and even presidents, that discrimination in this country comes from the lack of knowledge and understanding that people have of other cultures, races, and religions.
