What is the relationship between ethics and critical thinking?

Ethics is a set of moral principles and standard of conduct.

Critical Thinking is the process of gathering information, analyzing it from more than one perspective for the purpose of gaining understanding, making decisions, or problem solving.

When using critical thinking to solve a problem or make a decision, I believe that we must rely on our moral code, or ethics, to ensure that whatever conclusion we come to is ethical and in the best interest of all parties involved. I think the way individuals make the decisions based on their critical thinking skills ultimately shows their inner values and whether or not they are ethical or unethical.

Why are ethics a concern in an academic environment?

Ethics are a concern in the academic environment because you don't want students or faculty behaving inappropriately. Both students and faculty need to know that the individuals that they are dealing with are honest and ethical.

As a student, I want to know that the instructors are ethical and following standards when it comes to grading. There could be a situation where an instructor doesn't care personally for a student, I would want to know that the student is being graded fairly on their work and not their personality.

As a faculty member, I would think that instructors want to know their students are completing their own work, not plagiarizing or cheating on tests.

If students and faculty are not ethical, it degrades the educational experience and prohibits true higher learning.
