STANDARD MEAL PATTERN
BREAKFAST – 5 Items + Dairy
Any fruit or fruit juice
Any cereal, hot or cold (may use part of required milk)
Eggs, prepared any style
French toast, pancakes or waffles
Breakfast meats (bacon, sausage or ham)
Potatoes (homefries or hashbrowns)
Any type of breads (toast, muffins, coffee cake, bagels)
Yogurt (6-8 oz)
Milk (2%, whole, or chocolate)
LUNCH AND DINNER
There are 2 different meal patterns based on entrée choice:
1) Sandwich Meal OR
2) Non-Sandwich Meal
1) Sandwich Meal
Sandwich + 4 Sides + Caloric Beverage
Sandwich: Hamburger, hot dog, ham, chicken, turkey, cheese, grilled cheese, tuna salad, chicken salad, egg salad, roast beef, peanut butter & jelly, bologna, fish, pizza, tacos, burritos, fajitas, etc.
+ 4 choices: (include dessert as one choice)
Soup (any kind)
Crackers
Vegetables (any kind, prepared any way)
Pretzels or Chips, “snacks” of any kind
Fruit or fruit salad
Yogurt
Pasta salad or potato salad
Vegetable salad with dressing
Dessert
OR…
2) Non-Sandwich Meal
1 serving protein, 2 starches, 1 vegetable, 1 dessert + any additional item or larger portion of existing item + caloric beverage
ANY hot meal (spaghetti, casserole, stew, quiche, etc.) = protein and 1 starch
ANY protein source - any meat, chicken, turkey, fish, eggs, cheese
ANY starch source - potatoes, pasta, rice, beans, breads, biscuits
ANY vegetable - broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, green beans, greens, vegetable salad, etc.
ANY dessert - brownies, cake, pie, ice cream, puddings, cookies, etc.
Additional “minimum” guidelines:
3 dairies per day (one can be at snack)
3 added fats per day at meals
2 desserts per day (one at lunch and dinner)
