Abstract

For our Unit 3 IP assignment we are to discuss the definition of hate crimes. To provide how hate crimes have increased in the United States. We are to provide some insight of how these hate crimes can be decreased. In doing so who or what type of persons commits these crimes of hate. Who are the target victims of these hate crimes, listing cause and effects of these hate crimes and what actions that can be taken to minimize the control of continuing of these hate crimes.

To define the meaning of hate crime is a crime that can be stated as a bias crime that is directed under a criminal offence that is committed against a person, property, or society. Which can lead to being bias against a race, religion, disability, sexual orientation and ethnicity.

Background for hate crimes

Congress enacted the Hate Crimes Statistics Act of 1990. This law was directed to manifest evidence of prejudice based on race, religion, sexual orientation, or ethnicity. In September 1994 congress then passed the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act. Which replaced the Hate Crime Statistics Act to include both physical and mental disabilities. When the developed of the guidelines for hate crimes data that is collected recognized that hate crimes are not separated.

Profile of Hate Crimes:

The types of persons that are committing these types of hate crimes are those of their perceived biases. They are committing crimes of murder, forcible rape, aggravated assault, simple assault, robbery, burglary, theft, arson, damage/vandalism of property, offenders of these types of crimes are a mixture of whites, blacks, American Indian/Alaskan natives or even pacific islanders from the report data...
