“Growing Leaders”

1. I completely agree that leaders and managers are different. This can most plainly be seen in that you do not necessarily have to be a manager to be a leader. Every team I have ever been on there was always some form of a manger that would give us tasks and missions. However on each of these teams there was also a person that we would go to for expertise on the task, or someone that would keep us motivated, or even just inspire us to work as hard as they did, which is a leader.

2. The leadership model that I saw here is train and grow for within. To hire those who you feel have the potential to be great leaders and the raw talent, and then mold and develop their talent how you feel would best grow and help your company.

3. Chart the course is a very important attribute to make decisions on the direction in which your team goes, this can be measured by giving tasks that have many different ways to complete. Energize and inspire is important because most like you are leading a team and to inspire them to perform better as well as energize them to keep going when they are tired is important. A leader must also demonstrate ethics, integrity and compliance, which is basically making sure that the job is done within the guidelines set forth my upper management.

4. This case taught me that not everyone is a born leader but that does not mean they cannot become a leader. Using specific techniques and guidelines being a leader can be learned and groomed if the person has the desire to be a leader.
