Chapter One

1.1 Origin of the report:

As students of B.B.A it is compulsory for us to do the course MGT 301 – Human Resource Management. Through this course we have studied various principles, concepts and methodologies of HRM. We have come to know the rules, regulations and code of conduct, different strategies followed by formal organizations. As per requirement of this course we are supposed to write a term paper on HRM related topics and how they apply to one specific company. The topics we chose were Job Analysis, Personnel Planning and Training and Development. The company we chose to do our term paper on was Dhaka Bank Ltd.

1.2 Objectives:

The nature of the report demanded that we have a thorough understanding of the principles behind job analysis, personnel planning and training and development. Therefore our first objective was to acquire a reliable base of theoretical knowledge regarding these three topics.

In addition to this we had to gather information about how these issues are handled at the organization of our choice, Dhaka Bank Ltd.

Finally we had to process the information that we collected into a detailed analysis replete with a conclusion and set of recommendations.

1.3 Scope:

We did not aim for this report to be a ground breaking, revolutionary expose on the inner workings of the commercial banking industry. Rather the scope of our report is to simply compare the theoretical knowledge we have gained during our MGT 301 course regarding job analysis, personnel planning and training and development to the observations we made on the same topics while researching an actual organization. Therefore, we aim simply to show how the principles behind job analysis, personnel planning and training and development are implemented in the Bangladeshi commercial banking industry.
