Core competency report

From our study, we understand the core competencies are the things that some companies or organizations know how to do uniquely well and that have the scope to provide them with a better-than-average degree of success. It embodies an organization’s collective learning, particularly of how to coordinate diverse production skills and integrate multiple technologies. Such a Core Competency creates sustainable competitive advantage for a company and helps it branch into a wide variety of related markets. Core competencies also contribute substantially to the benefits a company’s products offer customers. It’s hard for competitors to copy or procure. In addition, understanding Core Competencies allows companies to invest in the strengths that differentiate them and set strategies that unify their entire organization. To illustrate this idea, I will identify and describe the core competencies of the organization I used to work for.

This summer I went back to China, and I worked as a finance intern for Yunnan Metropolitan Real Estate Development Co. Ltd (YMCI). YMCI is located in Kunming, Yunnan province. It focus on the urban construction investment as their main business, and it is a large state-owned enterprise which directly under the leadership of the government. YMCI is engaged in the real estate distribution, land primary development, and property management. The company operates its businesses primarily through commodity housings development and distribution, and the construction of landscape projects, as well as the reconstruction of urban engineering.

The core competency of YMCI is real estate development, and I will use the three matrix columns to describe this core competency.
