Learning Brief: Privilege

The privilege is not only occurring in today’s society, it was exists since long time ago. The privilege is defined as a special right, advantage, or immunity granted or available only to a particular person or group. This means if there is people have privilege that means there are other people who feel unequal.

Review my life experience, the concept of privilege did not impacted my life a lot. In my church, we receive Eucharist on the first Sunday of each month, but the premise is the person who could receive the Lord’s Supper must be a baptized Christian. Before I was baptized I was so admire those people who could receive the Eucharist, but now I think it is my privilege too.

The privilege also relates to human rights. As an obstetrician, female may favorably than male because female patients may feel uncomfortable to take to a male about their problem and may dislike the thought of a man examining them. Also the race is one of the hot topics. Suppose a person received two job offers at the same salary and similar benefits, but the difference is one is from a member of his/her own race and the other one is not. The person may accepts the job from the member of his/her own race because the person may think he/she could integration to the group easier and could build stronger relationship with coworkers.

Also the privilege is occurs in firms, the may causes some of the employees feel unequal when other employees get benefits. As a salesman or saleswoman, the one who has good appearance usually has more clients and has better performance. In high technology companies, the employers may like to hire younger person rather than an old person, because younger person has higher learning ability and ability to adapt, this could help the employers to reduce the training time.

Privilege did not just formed yesterday; it was existed since thousands years ago. We may not able to eliminate the unequal things, but we could improve the social atmosphere and try...
