Not just another walk in the park

Comerica Park is home to the MLB team the Detroit Tigers. The park was opened April 11, 2011 after two and a half years of construction, to replace the historic Tigers Stadium in Detroit, Michigan. Most ball parks have the same old classic traditions, hot dogs, cold beer, bags of peanuts, crackerjacks, and fathers and sons making memories. However, this sports ground has much more to offer. Becoming one of Detroit’s most well known attractions; it sits across the street from the famous Fox Theater and between the historic St. John Episcopal Church and Central United Methodist Church. Being surrounded by so much of the city’s history makes the walk into the park an experience in itself. As you approach the park, you’re surrounded by 33 tiger heads with baseballs in their mouths, bordering the outside of Comerica. Along with a fifteen foot high tiger statue standing just outside the main gates, these symbolic statues let you know that the amazing architecture and detail you are going to see of this stadium will surely be astounding.

From the moment you hear the beep when the usher scans your ticket, excitement is all around you. Peering between the beer vending cart and second floor suites, you can just barely see the vibrant green field and maybe even spot a few dots throwing and even smaller white dot back and forth. The smell of fresh cut grass and hot dogs fill the air while commotion is all around, as fans in Detroit Tigers apparel flood the stadium. Immediately to your left is the famous “D Shop”. This 6,000 sq.ft. sports shop features not only men’s, woman’s, and children’s clothing, hats and accessories, but also game used merchandise, appliances and even furniture, all in the Tiger’s colors blue, orange and white.
