Q 1. Comment on the 4 Ps of news channels in India

Ans.: The history of the news bulletins in India shown on Door Darshan served bland bulletins and worked more as the mouth piece of the government than as a news channel.

Door Daschan’s stile was shoddy news to private channels but after the market reforms the information was readily available.

Slowly Star news was launched in English and was the first 24 hr news channel but there was also an explosion of channels like Gujrath earthquake, Terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, Gujrath riots, etc. This situation boosted the average Daily viewership and made them from 31minuts to 2 hrs a day.

The masses started due to the proliferation of channels and hyper competition.

Therefore an air of seriousness was detached and serious news came before segments like sports.

The news became Spicer with quick bits and friendly politicians and celebrities became the mantras.

A shake out is eminent as more channels are entering in a crowded market especially Hindi news.

These channels would like to become paid channels in order to get reviews.

But CAS reveals the number of actual viewers that i.e only successful channels with no immediate competitive threat can turn pail.

More channels are being added in a clutter and the shakeout will happen sooner or later as some of the important joint ventures are taking the place and network partners.

According to Tv audience measurement data the viewership share of Hindi news channels with English news channels.

Inspite of the fact that Hindi news channels are ahead of the English counterparts in terms of number of viewers the English channels get higher rates.

This difference of perception is true because English news are more popular with the youngsters and upper-class people even today headlines are offered on mobile phones.

It comprises of only Indian promoted news ventures since foreign channels like BBC and CNN have their own sets of problems.
