Assignment: Robin Hood Case Reflection
1. Key Problems
Robin’s main problem is the difficulty in sustaining his ever increasing band. This stems from his initial vision to achieve more in his personal crusade against the sheriff by rallying more men. Several other problems arose from the large size of Merrymen, such as enforcement of discipline, food scarcity and most importantly the loss in revenue given the increased probability of being detected. Although Robin proposed a new policy in hope to resolve the diminishing revenue issue, it was not very welcomed. This was because the idea of fixed transit tax is no longer congruent to the mission of the Merrymen; “Rob from the rich and give it to the poor.” Lastly with the objective to end the campaign against the Sheriff, Robin is caught in a dilemma as to whether he should join the barons to free King Richard which would grant amnesty to his past offences; a long term goal. However, failing to free the King may cause Robin and his band to be severely punished by Prince John.
2. Problem to tackle first
In my opinion, Robin should first tackle the problem of sustaining and controlling his ever increasing band. In the text there was no mention of the presence of a chain of command now that the band has largely increased in size. This is the most crucial problem as it undermines the band’s operational capabilities and ultimately affects their mission as the Merrymen.
3. New Strategy
Robin should always consider the direction he is heading before deciding on a strategy. Given that his main aim of creating a band is to rebel against the Sheriff, then it is important for him to come up with a strategy that ensures his band remains intact.
In the first year, the band was small and simple to manage with Robin governing the important decisions. Now that the band has grown into a corporation, Robin should first adopt the strategy of restructuring his band into layers of management. The application of the...
