Keeping up with the Jones

1. The two parameters responsible for creating the filtration and reabsorption of fluid across a capillary wall are hydrostatic pressure and osmotic pressure.

2. A capillary bed has an arteriole end and a venule end. At the arteriole end, hydrostatic pressure is pushing outward while the osmotic pressure is staying regulated. At the venule end, the hydrostatic pressure is pushing inward while the osmotic pressure rises.

3. Interstitial fluid along with water and other small solutes can cross over a capillary wall. Blood cells cannot.

4. The Cytokines provide signals between immune cells to coordinate an inflammatory response.

5. The ice on the ankle causes capillaries to constrict, decreasing blood flow, and thus lowering the swelling.

6. Removing the ice from the ankle allows the capillaries to grow in radius allowing normal blood flow to return to the area. The cytokines also returns to normal.

7. Compression constricts blood vessels which reduces blood flow and inflammation.

8. Elevation of the damaged ankle decreases inflammation by decreasing blood flow to that area.

2. When Suzie stood up, her blood flow regulation was thrown off. Tachycardia in as common cause of this situation in young people while low blood flow is a cause for older people.

3. By elevating Suzie’s feet, blood will return back to her heart and brain to help her regain

4. Suzie’s low energy could be caused from how hard her body is working without her knowledge to keep everything such as blood pressure, blood flow, and heart rate normal.

5. Based on Suzie’s current symptoms of abnormal tiredness, low energy, and fainting she could have abnormal blood pressure.

1. The new signs that Suzie is exhibiting are an abnormal blood pressure confirmed, and...
