1. Check authority – Choose one of the “experts” that provided commentary in the documentary and check into their authority; what credentials do they have?; are they really an expert?; how can you tell? Fully cite the source you use in A.P.A. format.

Dr. David Ludwig was one of the “experts” who provided commentary in the FED UP documentary. Based on his credentials, I believe Dr. Ludwig is an expert in the area of childhood obesity and nutrition. Dr. Ludwig works in the Medical Research department of Boston Children’s Hospital. His primary research area is obesity. He holds an academic title of Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School and a Professor of Nutrition at Harvard School of Public Health. Dr. Ludwig has been published in medical journals and periodicals since 1999. His writings include the topics of nutrition, childhood obesity and others relating to pediatric nutrition and health. He has been published in the Journal of American Medical Association, The New England Journal of Medicine and The American Journal of Nutrition.

2. Check accuracy – Choose one fact that is provided in the documentary and check it against at least one other source. Fully cite the source you use in A.P.A. format.

One fact that was provided in the documentary was that fiber mitigates the negative effects that sugar has on the body. In a 2012 article published in Prevention Magazine, Dr. Rob Thompson agrees with this fact. He states that natural fiber rich foods like fruits and vegetables, can slow down the digestion of carbohydrates and reduce the amount of sugar in absorbed in the blood stream.
