GREEN MOUNTAIN CAMP: IT’S MORE THAN A SUMMER JOB

What steps might the Randalls take to design motivating jobs for camp staff? What needs might they be able to fill for camp staff? In what ways might the empowerment of camp staff impact the success of the camp?

Factors that make a job more motivating, such as additional job responsibilities, opportunities for personal growth and recognition, and feelings of achievement are what will keep employees coming back year after year (Bates - 2016, page 243). The Randalls will have to create an environment that that fosters creativity and a strong since of pride in their workplace. They can do this be setting specific goals that are meaningful, acceptable, challenging but attainable (Bates - 2016, page 244). Green Mountain Camp also needs to have a fine tuned mission statement that motivates the staff to perform at a very high level.

Job rotation may be used in the different categories of jobs, such as counselors, kitchen staff, and cleaning staff to keep employees from being bored or feeling stuck in any one job. Using job rotation the camp may be able to reduce its turnover level. Job rotation has many advantages:

* It is an effective way for employees to acquire new skills

* Organizations will increase the overall skill level of their employees

* Employees are cross-trained to perform different tasks

* Managers now have the flexibility to assign employees to different parts of the organization when needed.

The employees benefit because they acquire new skill sets that keep that allow them to grow allowing for a higher level of job enrichment.

Every employees needs will be different but will all require a safe place to work. It will also be important to provide training, resources, autonomy, responsibilities and challenging assignments giving staff a chance to use their skills and abilities creatively and allows them to achieve more of their full potential(Bates...
