The first key point in this week’s reading that I thought was important was how the students with disabilities need to be able to have a chance to work in a mainstream classroom. It is important that school try their best to make sure that these students are not separated from the rest of the school. Another point that goes along with the above is that there are many cases that helped make sure that these students have every chance to be with the regular students. Without these certain cases children with disabilities may still be more restricted from going to regular classrooms. Many times as stated in the readings most agree with the school districts however, this does not make it fair. Parents are involved in the process of their children’s IEP and has rights to fight for their children’s education needs as they see fit. I believe that it is important because at times the only voice that disabled students have is their parents. This week’s reading was based around placing the disabled students in mainstream classrooms while there are many key points I believe that the key points that I see significant are all listed. My prior belief about least restrictive environments was that disabled children should be separated from the rest of the students. I believed that with the one on one help from their special education teachers provided more help than being involved in a regular classroom. After my readings I still see that there are some cases where it is better for the student to be educated away from the regular students. However, if the students are capable of functioning and learning without any major struggles then they deserve a chance with the help of in class and out of class services. Based on upon my person experience in education I can apply this information to my future students by knowing how it is important to push for them to be involved in regular classrooms.
