1. Prior to being hired were you asked to take any physical ability tests?
Yes, part of the employment requirement was to pass a physical ability test to ensure that I possessed the strength, endurance and physical fitness that maybe required in the correctional officer job.
2. What do you perceive to be the physical demands of your job?
The physical demand of this job can include several such as the number of miles walked per day to ensure the inmates safety or the physical involvement required to separate inmates from physically hurting themselves, other inmates or correctional officers.
3. On a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 meaning very physically demanding and 1 meaning not at all physically demanding, how physically demanding would you say your job is?
On a scale of 1 to 5, the job of a correction officer would be a 4.
4. Are there physical demands you were unaware of prior to accepting your position?
The one physical demand that I was unaware of is the need to be agile and light on your feet to dodge food feces and urine.
5. Do you believe physical ability tests should be given to individuals being considered for your type of work? If yes, what types of physical tests would you recommend?
The physical ability test should defiantly be given before be considered for this job, because you want to be sure the person working with you can handle the demands and change that may occur. Because you may have to get to an area quickly, breakup fights, walk and check on the inmates frequently, the tests I would recommend are tests centered on core and physical strength, endurance and cardio.
6. Are physically able to run a short sprint if your assistance was needed to break up a fight.
