Facebook Case Study Week 2

1. competitors. Privacy critics argue that Facebook's privacy policy is something designed to

obscure the social networking site’s real motivation regarding protection of users' personal data.

In October, 2010 Facebook came out with a new feature called Groups.

This allows users to form circles with friends and share information they want to. Even with

this new feature there is a lot of changes that need to be made. Anytime you share information

online you need to do so with caution.

2. How can the availability of Facebook users’ personal data create business

opportunities for Facebook and other businesses?

The availability of users' personal data helps advertisers know who is interested in their products.

Every time a user "likes" pages on Facebook that interests them, they will get advertisements

based on those interests, and they become potential customers of those ads, in turn creating

revenue for Facebook and other businesses. Facebook has become a major force in social

network advertising, as well as all other online advertising.

3. Refer to Mark Zuckerberg’s future ambitions for Facebook, as articulated in the next to the

last paragraph of the case. From your perspective, what benefits might result if Zuckerberg’s

aims are realized? What concerns do you have about Zuckerberg’s goals?

Mark Zuckerberg’s ambitions to make Facebook, the gateway to the digital world, could benefit

users in many ways. One user ID, to connect digitally, to all that we do However, before this

could happen, there would need to be many changes made for the privacy of the users. Users

need to share in this responsibility, and realize that any time we connect digitally there is the

possibility our information will be shared without our consent.
