Jesus & Muhammad

The two most influential religious leaders of history are Jesus and Muhammad. Jesus is believed to be the Messiah (messenger of God) of Christianity by Christian worshippers. Muhammad claimed to be the Messiah of Islam. Both of these religious leaders dedicated their lives to fulfilling God’s will. Through this dedication they had many followers who lived by their teachings. Throughout their lives and even after their deaths Jesus and Muhammad inspired and lead many people across the multitude of religions. In this paper we will look into the lives of these leaders, the impacts of their deaths, how they are worshipped and how their messages are being carried out in the world today.

Jesus was born in Bethlehem in the year 4 BCE, and conceived by the Virgin Mary and the Holy Spirit. Mary’s husband was a carpenter from Bethlehem named Joseph. Jesus was born in a stable amongst the animals. The name Jesus has a meaning that exemplifies what would later be his teaching of humility, which is God saves. Upon his birth there were angles that appeared with tidings to the poor shepherds who went to pay their respects that a savior had been born to the people. The next recording of Jesus’ childhood was at the age of 12 years of age when he traveled with his parents on a yearly trip to Jerusalem for Passover. After being accidently left behind, his parents returned to find him in the Temple discussing the Torah with rabbis, and in response to being scolded he said “Did you not know that I must be in my Father’s house?” (Fisher, 2005). The next recordings of Jesus’ life was not until he was the age of 30 when he was baptized by John the Baptist even though he was considered sinless Jesus did this on behalf the all humans. Following his baptism Jesus went to the desert and did a 40 day fasting where he was tempted by Satan but Jesus was able to refuse all temptations.
