Organizational design is important on many levels to the success of a company. Organizational design “is the way managers structure their organization in order to achieve the organization’s goals. The formal design of an organization is laid out in an organization chat, which indicates the duties, tasks, and responsibilities of both individuals and departments” (Business Dictionary, 2006). As a company grows organizational design becomes more important to help guide a company through success. The paper will discuss the importance of organization design choices, organizational structures, the strategy, structure, and process in an organizations, and the decision making process that Best Snacks has used in solving and understanding their company problems.

Importance of Organizational Design Choices

Organizational design is important to any company’s success; Best Snacks Inc. is a company that had to introduce organizational design choices to help the company turn around. Not only does organizational design create structure it also, “is the process of aligning an organization’s structure with its mission” (Louis, 2009, pg.1). Best Snacks Inc. had a mission to increase innovation within the organization; implement new products and implementing cultural change programs within the company in order to increase employee’s creative thinking skills. Best Snacks aligned their goals with their structure throughout the past five years and the “pushed for innovation led to the introduction of new products and services with the potential to significantly grow the Best Snacks market share” (Best Snacks II Scenario, p.1). Sabrina McKay, VP of Organizational Development, “created several initiatives intended to foster employees’ creative thinking skills, these programs were very successful” (Best Snacks II Scenario, p1).
