Abstract

This paper will focus on the design of Queens Hospital Center which will include the internal and external factor that has defined and shaped Queens Hospital Center size, structure, and processes. It will provide a picture of how this facility operated and how staff provided care and service to patients.

Organizational Design

Queens hospital Center is a member of the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation; Queens Hospital Center is a major healthcare provider in the borough of Queens. The Hospital marks it is 75th anniversary of serving the communities of central and southeastern Queens in 2010, since we first opened our doors as Queens General Hospital in 1935. Our mission remains to provide quality, comprehensive care to all New Yorkers regardless of their ability to pay. The hospital opened the doors of a new, 360,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility in January 2002 -- the result of a four-year, $149 million capital project. Services in the hospital include inpatient care, newborn care, adult, pediatric and psychiatric emergency services, and operative services, including same-day surgery and inpatient surgery. The hospital contains both private and semi-private rooms, providing a more personalized environment for the patient. November 2006 saw the opening of another facility -- an ultramodern Ambulatory Care Pavilion that connects to the first floor of the new hospital via two enclosed bridges. Officially open to the public in January 2007, the new $53 million, 142,000-square-foot Pavilion houses enhanced Centers of Excellence in Diabetes and Behavioral Health as well as the Primary Care, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Ophthalmology and Dentistry clinics.
