Abstract:

This paper explores the suggestions of Rizal found in the book of “Noli Me Tangere” which are applicable on our today’s education. The purpose of this study is to give ideas to the people who plan to build a school and make their education better than the education that we have today. The different suggestions of Rizal that are found will be presented. And the conclusion that these suggestions will make a big difference on what will be our education in the future.

Introduction:

This research presents the different suggestions of Rizal to our education which are applicable in the present. We have chosen this topic because we want to give the readers ideas about different things that could be applied on our educational system. Not only could the way of education be changed but also the way of how people think about things. Like Rizal, applying the different learning’s that he had to teach the children of Dapitan to make those children knowledgeable about things. With all of these researches, we will be able to show the readers what things could be applied on what education we have today.

Rizal in his novel wanted to build a modern school and according to him, he would like to have the building be spacious and hygienic and the site should be large and provided with playground and garden. Rizal himself dreamed of founding a school with the demands of modern times and circumstances. Rizal preaches the need of education and said that “ignorance is slavery”. In his times, he always reminded his sisters the value and importance of education so he encourages his sisters Josefa and Trinidad to learn English language. The subjects that he taught: reading, writing, arithmetic, geography, geometry, languages, history and good conduct are the things that he believed is essential on our community.
