The article titled, Enhancing the ability to think strategically: A learning model by authors Casey and Goldman discusses the ability for an individual to think strategically, more specifically the authors examine the development process to thinking strategically.

Can the development process to thinking strategically be examined so the process can be reproduced successfully is the key question the authors are addressing. In theory people can be taught to think strategically even those with limited abilities. To excel, education and experience are required.

The article discusses in depth the importance of completing the study as well as how the results can be applied in the academic and professional world. The use of the proposed model is valuable for any organization. The model is especially helpful in the process of teaching individuals to think strategically.

The authors conclude that in previous research the ability to think strategically is vital to managers in all organizations. Their argument is if this statement is true, the research on how the development process of thinking strategically begins should be paramount. If this development process can be understood, then the process can be taught to those individuals who struggle with acquiring it. The concept to teach individuals the development process to strategic thinking is a key component of the study.

An individual can possess a specific skill set; however these skill sets are not transferrable. Throughout this article the author’s assumption is that all individuals have the ability to think strategically. The suggested model may prove to teach individuals how to develop strategic thinking, however some individuals may face a more difficult road of success than others.
