• What is the attraction of dashboards to CEOs and other executives?

– What real business value do they provide to executives?

Dashboard, like the instrument panel in a car, is the computer version that displays critical information in easy-to-read graphics, assembled from data pulled in real time from corporate software. This provide the tools which makes it possible for managers to see the key changes in their business almost instantaneously- when salespeople falter or quality slides- and take quick, corrective action

• The case emphasizes that managers of small businesses and many business professionals now rely on dashboards.

– What business benefits do dashboards provide to this business audience?

At first, Logging on to his dashboard for NetSuite, Ellison reviewed the financial data and saw surprisingly strong sales. Next, Nelson said, “The information came up with the new orders, and it was the exact same number and a very big high-five call”. Managers can see the key changes in their business and take quick, corrective actions. At General Electrics, James P, Campbell tracks the number of orders coming in from each customer every day and compares that with targets. He could have a quick global view of sales and service levels across the organization.

• What are several reasons for criticism of the use of dashboards by executives?

There are several criticisms of the dashboards. First of all, most of small companies couldn’t afford sophisticated software in the past.
